The Wine Bar & Bistro is situated within the heart of Hampshire in the delightful small country town of Bishops Waltham. Tucked away in a converted port cellar beneath the bustling High Street, it is a haven of calm with a great atmosphere and lots of charm.

Our seasonal lunch and dinner menus are freshly prepared using local produce wherever possible and we offer an excellent selection of daily black board specials.

The ethos behind the wine list is purely good drinking. We have compiled this list particularly to fit our Bistro, that is to show unusual wines from unusual places and the diversity of the appellations, areas and the individuality of each producer. The growers and producers are small, producing limited quantities of the finest examples, some organic, some biodynamic, but all with integrity.

There is a long history of food and drink at these premises. Founded in 1617 the building was originally owned by a Thomas Prior who established a business selling wine and provisions to amongst others the Bishops Palace where at least ten reigning monarchs stayed until its destruction in the 1664 civil war.

This history has been duly noted by the drinks industry in Britain. Research by ‘Off Licence News’ concluded that the Wine Bar is the oldest shop in the country on the same site which has sold alcohol continuously since 1617
